We often get asked which bar is suitable for powerlifting, weightlifting, and functional training. We have now developed the Strength Shop Bastard Bar, a bar which combines many features from each type of bar and brings them into one.

Each sleeve in these bars consist of one needle bearing, two ball bearings, and one brass bushing.

Lightly grooved sleeves.

Black chrome plating.

Independent reviews of the bar,
"The bar is lovely, nice knurling, good flex and spin! In that price range I've used rogue bars and the again faster klokov bar, even used the Taishan bar, and this bar to me feels the most comfortable and is definitely the most versatile of the lot! Super pleased with it! Will definitely point people towards this bad when asked! It's one of the best if not the best bar for crossfit that I've used, and as great a quality that rogue bars are, I would definitely take the bastard bar over the Ohio or rogue bar!" - Jordan - July 2015

Excellent all-round bar

I managed to get hold of one of these during lockdown 1. I did quite a lot of research on barbells and this is the one that I really wanted. I have been using it for about 6 months now and have been really impressed with it's performance. I generally use if for squat/bench/press/deadlift but have also used it for a few power cleans. The knurling is just right, it offers a lot of grip without being too harsh on the skin. There isn't a huge amount of spin in the sleeves, but that is how I prefer it and I have never noticed it during a lift. What has most impressed me is how durable it is. I used this is an outside home gym (under a tarp) for 3 months, and it is now in a summerhouse which is very humid. It hasn't been maintained at all, not even brushed. There is only a tiny amount of rust showing on the shaft and a little on the sleeve. I have bought some 3 in 1 oil and a copper brush and this should deal with it quite easily. In comparison my iron plates have really suffered and are coved in rust. I shopped around a lot and I think this is a very good value bar for the spec. The price hasn't changed since the start of the pandemic which makes the strength shop stand out from a lot of other suppliers. If you are looking for an excellent all-around, durable barbell I don't think you can go wrong with this.

10/10

Cannot recommend Strengthshop enough. Bought this bar along with the 150kg coloured riot bumper plates. Used it all for the first time today in my home gym and it was a great session. Black and chrome is very aesthetic (worth the extra £10). Medium knurling means enough grip not to rip your hands apart. The spin on the bar was perfect for my weightlifting too. Looking forward to hitting a few PBs with this bar.

Recommend this for any home gym

Specs on this bar are great, just what I needed. Has handled upwards of 200k very well. Would be happy putting up to 250k on it I reckon. Use it for deadlifts, squats, rows mainly. Pair it with bumper plates and it makes for perfect set up for oly lifting too. Good whip, and the aesthetic of it is a solid 10. Highly recommend black shaft gives nice contrast with the sleeves. Knurling is enough to grip but not so much it rips your hands apart. All round great bar for £200 Mark.
